life lately: fall party + kc weekend

3 R D A N N U A L F A L L P A R T Y
[wine, appetizers + friends to celebrate the best season of all]
W E E K E N D G E T A W A Y : K A N S A S C I T Y
[fun, albeit rainy, weekend getaway with friends + a concert][55 degrees and rainy shopping day on the plaza]
[KC must-eat: bbq!]
[the BEST brunch at the corner restaurant]
[WWI museum and memorial – highly recommend and beautiful views of the city]
[The National at Starlight Theatre – amazing show and we were so close to the stage!!
It did rain the entire show, but we made the best of it!]
[and THEN – Matt Berninger, lead singer of husband’s all-time FAVORITE band, came into the audience RIGHT NEXT TO US and husband sang into the mic with him. You have to trust me because I barely got a pic, but this “after” photo of husband is pretty telling. Life complete.]

Weekend Picturebook: Mini Getaway to KC
{First things first: BBQ. These were literally some of the best ribs I’ve ever eaten in my life. I’m drooling right now just thinking about it. – Fiorella’s Jack Stack BBQ}
{We loved our boutique Hotel Sorella on the Plaza – from the artwork to the adorable breakfast nook to the unfortunately unusable rooftop pool.}
{After a long day of shopping we enjoyed an amazing meal at Zocalo’s, including margs, tacos, guac + discussing our 2015 resolutions.}
{After dinner we walked outside to find it snowing … HARD. We were not prepared, but loved it. We walked around the beautifully lit Plaza like a giddy young couple, then raced back to our hotel for warmth.}
{And warmth we received – drinking coffee + baileys at the rooftop bar.}
{Before heading home the next day we made a stop at our new favorite coffee shop, Kaldi’s. Cappucinos + Mochas TDF!}
{And of course had to make one final (long and expensive) stop – ikea! Photo: loading up the mini to the brim in 12 degree weather!}

Mixtape: KC Memorial Day Weekend ’13

Confession: I love mixtapes. If you make me a mixtape, I’ll love you forever. There’s something so special about them. All the mixtapes I’ve made or that have been given to me reflect a moment in time. The songs remind me of a specific person, place or event. I can go back and listen to them and remember the smallest details about that time in my life.
Over the years I’ve most commonly made mixtapes for road trips. Among my collection I have OKC, Tulsa, Green Forest, N. Dakota, Spring Break + many more. When I was younger I even used to write out all the songs on a piece of paper in order with title and artist. I still have the CD and list for Cozumel 2003. If only you knew what was on that CD…
In the spirit of old mixtapes, Husband and I are making one for our trip to Kansas City this weekend. We’re headed up for a little weekend getaway to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. Since we have very different taste in music it will be an interesting compilation, but will hopefully keep both of us musically satisfied for the trip.
Enjoy a peek at our mixtape and let me know what songs would be on yours. Happy long weekend! xo
